Installation Guide sql server
This guide helps you to set up the software you need for the course "Working with SQL Server databases". As a database system we use Microsoft SQL Server which is one of the three market leading database technologies. It is an enterprise class Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) that is used by approximately 139,604 companies world wide. With the release of SQL Server 2016, this version now runs on the Linux open source operating system, a move that is quickly propelling this RDBMS to the number one spot. It's a good time to learn about it!
Install SQL Server 2017 SP1 Express edition
The following are the minimum system requirements for installing the software:
Hard Disk Space: At least 6.0 GB of available disk space.
Operating System: Windows 10, 8.1 and 8
Processor Memory: 512 MB
Processor Speed: x64 Processor: 1.4 GHz
You will be taken to the following page (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/download-sql-server-management-studio-ssms).
An executable file will be downloaded to your computer. Run the exe when the download is completed and follow the simple setup instructions.
Download the Sample Database script (SQLTW_Sample_DB.sql)
We use a SQL Server sample database called SQLTW_Sample_DB for this course. Please click the link to download it to your computer. After it downloads, do not open it, just save it to your computer. If you wish you can create a folder for this course "SQLTrainingWheels" and place the downloaded sample database in that folder.

- After installing, start the application.
- Windows users, go to your Start Menu and click on Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio from your list of installed programs.
